Chalet “Rouge ou Blanc” (1550 meters) is located directly on the 250 km of ski runs that make up the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski, 1300-3330 meters. This vast area is one of Europe’s most advanced ski resorts. The Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine ski is widely loved by skiers because of the good snow conditions, the extensive track network and the high number of hours of sunshine throughout the year. The area includes the ski resorts include Alpe d’Huez, Auris, Oz, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas.
Modern lifts take you quickly and efficiently to the slopes from 1300 meters to the summit of Pic Blanc at 3330 meters where you have a view of a fifth of France and several major peaks, including Mont Blanc, the Mont Ventoux and the Puy the Dome. From the Pic Blanc to advanced skiers can climb to two of the most famous black slopes of the Alps: Le Tunnel and La Sarenne. The latter, with its 16 km long, the longest in the world! There are several installed snow cannons so that these fantastic slopes all winter long. The ski resort of Villard-Reculas has been around since 1946 and is centrally located in this vast ski area.
Chalet “Rouge ou Blanc”
Chalet “Rouge ou Blanc” (1550 meters) is located directly on the “ski in, ski out” that will be built in 2018, but already now you can get directly out of the chalet onto the skies and access the entire ski area. The chalet features a spacious ski room for storing your skis.
Villard-Reculas Ski Area
Villard-Reculas has its own ski slopes north of the village from 1550 meters altitude. The slopes are on the westside of the mountain and are ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers. A new easy piste has been created in the summer of 2015 which has increased the training ground for beginners and children. For advanced skiers there are red and black runs, so Villard-Reculas has slopes for all levels. Moreover, snow cannons have been installed throughout the snowmaking area to be able to guarantee snow on the lower slopes until April.
Inexpensive Skiing
A modern high speed chairlift takes you in 7 minutes from Villard-Reculas to the top of Signal (from Alpe d’Huez village / station it takes you longer to get there). The chairlift takes you to the other parts of the Grandes Rousses ski area, Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski. Villard-Reculas offers the possibility to ski inexpensively, € 18.50 per day, € 17.00 for children, seniors and students € 11.00 for the first beginner lifts.
Ski School
The ESF ski school in Villard Reculas offers ski and snowboard instruction for all levels. Either in group classes, private groups or individual lessons. Depending on your level of skiing, your teacher will take you in Villard-Reculas or on the higher slopes of the Grandes Rousses. For the true ski-aholic there are guides and instructors who will take you on off piste ski tours.
Villard Reculas has a wonderful snug and safe resort for all children of 4 years and older. The ‘Jardin d’Enfants’ is down in the village at 1500m in a sunny and private area. One of the teachers speaks English. The meeting place of the ski school can be reached from the chalet both on foot and skiing.
To make sure you will have a spot, you can pre-book your classes. The school starts their overall planning in September. Please have a look on the ski school website for more information: esf-villard-reculas.com. You can sign up by e-mail, but you can also arrange your booking through us. Please indicate your ski or snowboard level: beginners, semi-advanced, advanced or good.
Cross county skiing (ski de fond (Nordic) and (guided) snowshoeing trips are available als well.
Ski Passes

We want to put your special attention to the FAMILY FORMULA for additional advantages. The formula gives a 15 – 22% discount to families consisting of 2 adults (grand)parents) and at least to children under 22 years old. This could save you up to € 224. You do need to order this at least 7 days in advance.
The ski school offers attractive combination packages with ski pass and lessons tailored to level. For beginning skiers and small children, we therefore recommend to take the passes ‘customized’ in consultation with ski school.
Hiking Pass for Non-Skiers
Villard-Reculas offers a variety of acitivities for all non-skiers. You can obtain a special “walking-pass”, which will let you use the network -also the ski chairlift Villard-Reculas- to explore the area. You can get higher into the mountains, to do the hiking trails or to meet up with family and friends who have been skiing and share a bite to eat on one of the terraces on the slopes. A hiking pass for 6 days costs € 89.50.
Ski rental
Good ski equipment you rent in Villard Reculas at Sport 2000 P’tit Pingouin. If you indicate when renting that you are staying in Chalet “Rouge or Blanc” you will get a nice discount.
